JULIE RAYNOR GROSS, M.B.A., Ed.M., CEP

unnamed-1Ms. Julie Raynor Gross is the Founder and President of Collegiate Gateway LLC. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Princeton University, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, where she majored in psychology, minored in English, and received certification to teach high school English.  Her senior thesis was in developmental psychology. She earned her Masters in Education degree, Phi Delta Kappa, from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with an emphasis on counseling and university administration, and her Masters in Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School. Ms. Gross received a Certificate from the Harvard Summer Institute on College Admissions. She is a Master Practitioner of the Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator (R) and the Strong Interest Inventory Career Planning Tool (R).

Ms. Gross is a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC) and New York State Association of College Admissions Counselors (NYSACAC).  She serves as the Vice Chair of the College Committee of the IECA.  Ms. Gross provides professional educational seminars on high school planning and college admissions to colleagues, teachers, students and parents.  She conducts college visits (see photos throughout this website) and meets with admissions deans, students and faculty.  The goal is to keep current about admissions approaches, academic programs and school culture.  Ms. Gross believes in the critical importance of sharing what she learns to help clients make the most informed decisions possible. Collegiate Gateway has an established social media presence on twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn; and publishes a blog and newsletter, Collegiate Courier, to provide the latest news and analysis about college, graduate school and careers.

Prior to founding Collegiate Gateway, Ms. Gross’ professional experience included executive management in both the educational and business sectors, in the areas of strategic planning, marketing, operations flow, web design and training.   At Harvard University, she conducted academic planning and assisted in the creation of an undergraduate core curriculum for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.  At Newsday, she directed a new strategic planning division, responsible for developing an integrated Five Year Plan integrating financial, marketing, sales and operating components; served as Assistant to the Publisher and helped evaluate the performance of Times Mirror’s East coast newspapers; and also created The Newsday Channel, a 24-hour text and video cable channel, for which she hired and managed a 35-member department. She has also served as a senior executive in marketing and technology for a national wholesale business, for which she created strategies to expand products and geographic markets, developed targeted catalogs, created a computer-to-plate pre-press operation, and established and designed an internet site.

Ms. Gross has participated in extensive volunteer and pro-bono work for secondary schools and higher education.  She is Co-President of her class at Princeton University, and served on the Alumni Schools Committee as an Interviewer for six years.  In addition, she has held numerous leadership positions in the Port Washington School District, including Co-President of the Home and School Association of the high school; long-standing member of the NYS Shared Decision-Making Committee; and Chair of parent interview committees for district administrative candidates, including superintendent and principals. She regularly donates educational consulting to charitable organizations in the New York metropolitan area.  Her most recent pro bono consulting projects for the Harvard Business School Club of New York Community Partners Program involved strengthening public education in New York City; and providing strategic direction to private schools in the New York area regarding mission and expansion of markets.
